This work emerged from a process driven dialogue between hot glass and unconventional shaping techniques. I wanted to capture glass in its fluid state and make forms that visually convey both inflation and deflation. I did this by exploring the following themes : collision, containment and balance.
Inspired by medieval guillotines and skin and bones architecture. I used steel rebar and concrete as foundational tools to shape and coax the glass into expressively novel forms. The use of soft pastel, fleshy tones provides a delicate base for collision with raw rusty rebar spikes. Symbolic to traditional building methods, the rebar also acts as a support system for the final forms to rest on.
