Digital painting made in Houdini using particles - Abstract landscape

This piece was made whilst researching the romantic sublime. I found the dramatic landscape paintings of that time depicting erupting volcanoes, craters and thunderous scenes of terrifying, awesome nature, particularly captivating. The colour palette of blacks, greys, dark cherries, dirty apricots and earthen browns featured in the works of that period, lure you into a world of escapable fear and set the tone wonderfully.
The landscape painting was made from taking images of some of my glass pieces (Crater 1, Crater 2) compiling in Photoshop and then running through a particle simulation adding movement and flow.
The particles were then extruded through space based off colour and density, literally bringing the colours to life, with the resulting form rendered in glass.
